Organisers are expecting another big turnout for the annual event.
Event manager Danny Hoare said the competitior numbers are looking good.
"I am pretty sure we will get around 180 competitors on the day,” he said.
“And we normally get about 4000 in the crowd, which is a pretty good turnout.”
It will be the 19th consecutive year Great Western has hosted the rodeo event.
Hoare said the event came about due to a break in the Easter weekend in the Grampians region.
"There was nothing to do here on Good Friday and we needed a fundraiser for the Great Western Football and Netball Club,” he said.
"We start getting it organised around November, with most of the work done by just a few people on the organising committee.
“I have been involved with it for six years and it is definitely getting bigger each year.”
The rodeo schedule will include a variety of events including steer riding and different roping events.
During the past three years, there has been about a 50 per cent increase in competitor numbers at the event.
Hoare also doubles as the secretary of the football and netball club.
He said it is because the event is starting to develop its own reputation on the rodeo circuit.
“Three years ago there was about 120 people competing on the day and now it has grown to the stage where last year we had about 190, which was great.”
Hoare said the rodeo also doubles as the Lions’s biggest fundraiser during the year.
“It is pretty essential to the future success of the club,” he said.
“Without the event, the club would struggle to be able to continue on.
“The rodeo is a three day commitment for all the people who help set it up.
“So we are grateful for their help across the weekend.”
The set up starts on the Thursday and the arena is usually gone by midday on the Saturday.
Hoare said it has developed into one of the most popular events during the weekend.
"It adds to the activity in the Grampians over that weekend and it provides good publicity for the region as well,” he said.
“We reckon about 80 per cent of the people who come to the rodeo are from outside the area.”
Tickets can be purchased from the Great Western racecourse gate on the day.
Childrens tickets are $10 with adults $25.
A family ticket for two adults and 2 children is $60.
Gates open at 10am with arena action to start at midday.
The main event action in the arena will start at 3pm and will run through until late in the evening.
