The Grasshoppers have joint coaches in the A Grade netball competition this season and the match gave the team a chance to put into practice what it had been training during the preseason.
New joint A Grade Taylor Mason said the team has settled into a rhythm and looked good in the practice match.
"No doubt we still have a lot to work on but plenty of positive things came out of the match,” she said.
"We had a couple of players out for the match, so we trialled some players in different positions just to see how it would work.
"It was good to continue to work on our full court systems in a match sense as well.”
The Grasshoppers had a good turn out for its first practice match of the preseason.
Mason said she was hoping to utilise the players’ ability to perform in different positions.
“We have a really versatile team,” she said.
“Even looking at the B and C Grade team, those players can fill any positions needed in A Grade as well.”
The teams will continue their fitness training once a week but the Thursday sessions will focus more about the game skills.
The football team also faced Tatyoon on Saturday.
Coach Jayden Fowkes said it was good to test themselves out against a physical opponent on the field.
"It was a really good hitout, everyone had a good crack during the game,” he said.
"It is hard to get game fitness just from training sessions, so it was definitely a good blowout for the guys who did turn up.
“And everyone came out of the match injury free, so that was probably the best thing to come out of the day.”
About 30 players were involved in the practice game with fitness and ball movement the focus for the group.
Fowkes said the team will continue to work on those areas when it faces Diggers Rest in the final practice match on Saturday.
"Diggers Rest are a fairly handy side in the Riddell District Football League,” he said.
"Just need to continue to work on our preseason fitness, can only do so much then it comes down to game fitness.
“So that will give us a good final hitout before the season starts in a few weeks.”
Fowkes said despite strong form during the past four years, the club is not getting ahead of itself.
"We are definitely confident going into the season,” he said.
“We will aim for finals first and make sure that is locked in then we will reassess and go from there.”
Navarre will open its Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League season against Trentham on April 22.
