The town will host the seventh annual Rupanyup Dirt Music Festival, which will includes a range of performance spaces, such as churches, halls, gardens and verandahs.
Organiser Ash Teasdale said the event was largely acoustic, with a focus on music that could be played anywhere, any time.
“It’s going to be another great year,” he said.
“It is free to attend and has no headline acts, no egos and no stress.”.
This year’s festival will see 20 acts perform across six different venues at Rupanyup.
Mr Teasdale said the term ‘dirt music’ came from Tim Winton’s book of the same name.
“In the book, dirt music is anything you can play on a verandah,” he said.
“This idea of music made by everyday people during their everyday lives is behind Rupanyup’s Dirt Music Festival.
“The festival gives amateur musicians and performers of all kinds, an opportunity to strut their stuff in a caring and nurturing environment, where the emphasis is on having fun, making music and listening to it.
“The festival aims to promote the ideals of participatory music to all levels and ages of society.”
Mr Teasdale said festival would run from 11am to 4.30pm.
“There will also be some live band karaoke at the pub after the festival,” he said.
Mr Teasdale said people could go to the festival’s Facebook page, email rupdirtmusic@gmail.com, or call him on 0422 608 570 or Ray Kingston on 0413 211 072 for more information.
