It is not something Luke Fisher is thinking about too much though.
“Hope to finish in the finals and give ourselves a chance at more success,” he said.
“To be consistent across the entire year in all grades will lead to improvement.”
The core group that has experienced success over the past two season will continue to hold the club in good stead but the loss of Jacob Cooke-Harrison will be hard to cover up forward.
Fisher has singled out new player Daniel Souter as someone who will add something to the group in the ruck department and up forward.
“He has a great attitude and has fitted in really well,” he said
“Angus Gove, Brayden Helyar and Ollie Timms are young guys who will get lots of opportunities this season as well.”
A fit Fisher will also be very useful for the side as the side continues to improve from within as its young players develop.
“I am new to the club so my style has evolved into what I think the group needs to continue to be successful,” he said.
“Already a successful club with a good culture it was important that we sustained and built on the foundations that have been set in the past.”
Overall Fisher and the club are excited about the young enthusiastic group they have to work with.
Success often breed success and for the young players coming through that will be key.
“They know what it takes to be successful, but they know that past successes do not determine future success,” he said.
“Our focus has been on the process and hard work that it takes to be successful not the outcome.”
Five minutes with Luke Fisher
How will your style be changing this year?
Obviously I am new to the club so my style has evolved into what I think the group needs to continue to be successful. Already a successful club with a good culture it was important that we sustained and built on the foundations that have been set in the past.
Where do expect improvement to come?
Young players becoming more consistent to play their role week in and week out.
We will also lots of players have to take on new roles and play in different positions depending on what the team needs.
What players will be taking on different roles in the side this season?
There will be some younger players who stand up into leadership roles and there will also be some players who get more opportunity through the midfield to share the workload across more players. Players such as Ollie Timms and Angus Gove will get lots of opportunity through the midfield.
Who do think will be the team to beat?
Obviously Minyip-Murtoa and Stawell were really competitive last year and they will continue to do so. I also think there will be few easy games which is great for the competition.
What has you most excited about this season?
I am most excited about working with a young enthusiastic group who are keen to do well. They also know what it takes to be successful, but they know that past successes do not determine future success. So our focus has been on the process and hard work that it takes to be successful not the outcome.
