COMING into the role of a senior coach at a club that has secured the past two Wimmera Football League premierships brings with it certain expectations, but Luke Fisher said it’s not something he thinks about.

“I try not to think of it as big shoes to fill,” he said.
“It’s obviously a successful club but it’s good to have a refresher with a new coach.
“I guess that helps refresh the boys as well to try to be successful. Definitely not talking backing up two premierships, its just about getting back and enjoying it.”
Fisher was appointed the senior football coach at the Horsham Saints late last season following Shayne Breuer’s announcement he would step down to spend more time with family.
At the time the news was let slip, Fisher was still busy preparing Donald’s football side for its own premiership tilt. But now he is deep into his first pre-season at the helm of the Saints and looking forward to getting back on the paddock.
“The club’s been very accepting and welcoming,” Fisher said.
“There’s a good bunch of boys and ladies as well off the field that are all willing to help out. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
New club president Mick Morris is excited to have Fisher at the Saints, not only in his role as coach, but also as a player.
“He comes with a big reputation on the field,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to see him go to work during the season.”
Last year Fisher struggled with injuries that kept him off the field in the back half of Donald’s season.
A previous winner of the North Central Football League’s Feeney Medal and the Central Highland Football League’s Geoff Taylor Medal he hopes to show some of that form in 2017.
“Coming off the injury I’m still gauging how the body will go,” he said.
“The coaching part means I’ll also be out there directing traffic as well.
“I just want to get back to playing good footy, rallying the boys and making sure we are doing a good job.”
Fisher said he would rely on the help of Brendan Bryan to work the board from the sidelines.
