Dr Claridge
A dedicated part of the Ararat community, Dr Eric James Carré Claridge built the original Claridge House in 1952.
Born in Wellington New Zealand in 1912, Dr Claridge graduated medicine from Sydney University. He met his wife Carmen working at The Alfred where she was a nurse and they married in 1938.
His first practice was in Minyip and he later took the opportunity to expand, taking up a bigger practice in Ararat.
Dr Claridge was called up to the medical Corp at the start of World War II, serving in New Guinea, before returning to the Ararat community with the end of the war. He built Claridge House in 1952 and was the first doctor in Ararat to have his own X-ray machine and developing room.
Dr Claridge was well known within the Ararat community as a strong force in Legacy and a dedicated member of the RSL and the local golf club
He retired in 1981.
