The mature age learning organisation held its registration day on Thursday.
Horsham U3A president Bob McIlvena said a lot of new students had put down their names.
“It was a very successful day, we had more than 200 people register including about 40 new members,” he said.
“Obviously the numbers have increased on last year.
“It could be due to our advertising or the very successful market we ran last year that raised $5000 for the Wimmera Cancer Centre, which could have raised awareness of the group.”
Mr McIlvena said the organisation would offer mostly preexisting courses, though were are new courses this year such as glass making.
“The age range is incredible, from the nineties to people in their mid fifties,” he said.
“To have people still getting around to learning in their nineties is pretty impressive.”
Mr McIlvena said he wanted to congratulate the committee and volunteers.
“It’s a lot of hard work, and everybody showed up early,” he said.
“We were still here on a Friday entering all the new members into our database.
“It’s a huge job.”
History, writing, card making and film classics courses have all proven to be popular with students.
“All kinds of activities, from sitting still and listening to the more active,” Mr McIlvena said.
“The gardening group is popular, so much so that we can’t accommodate them at the Horsham Railway Station.”
“They have to meet at the greyhound centre at the showgrounds.”
