The seven-race meeting will be highlighted by the cup, which is set to be the last race of the day.

Great Western Racing Club manager Penny Penfold said it had been a busy period, but the club was looking forward to the races.

“We are really hoping for a big crowd to attend on Sunday,” she said.

“There is a lot on offer for people of all ages, but along with Country Racing, we are trying to make it family friendly.”

Alongside action packed races there will also be a giveaway bag for the children, Kelly Sports and much more.

Some of the goodies included in the show bag are a hat, sunglasses and head phones.

There are a limited number of show bags so it will be first in best dressed.

The ever-popular Tuckers Hill Quarry Boat Regatta returns, with heats and finals run between races.

Racegoers build their own imitation boat and run down the home straight, with plenty of prizes on offer. 

“We are still looking for teams to enter,” Penfold said.

“We are probably at 50 per cent of what would normally run. It is a cool cash prize of near $1000 so we hope there is a few more entries on the day.”

Fashions on the Field is also featuring, while there is a range of food and wine on offer and there are shady areas available for those looking to beat the heat.

The track has been prepared to perfection according to several Grampians trainers.

Penfold said the track is a good four, and the club wants to race at that on Sunday.

She said she is expecting a number of people to take advantage of the buses running from Halls Gap, Stawell and Ararat.

“We want to see a big crowd, but as long as we hold our own we our happy,” she said.

Almost 1300 came through the gate to attend the cup last year.

There will be post-race entertainment, with an Ararat band playing in between the second last and final race and then into the evening.

“Hopefully everyone has a good day,” Penfold said.

“We also want everyone to be responsible in the heat.”
