Composer and Horsham College music director Nicholas Shirrefs also made an appearance along with students from the Horsham’s Holy Trinity Lutheran School, Warracknabeal Secondary College, Horsham College and Natimuk Primary School.
Members of the Horsham Rural City and Salvation Army Brass Band also performed.
Williamstown High School music director James Rust said it was fantastic to perform in Horsham.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone and I am sure we will make this venture again,” he said.
“Horsham councillor Mark Radford emceed the day and what a character he is, – the students enjoyed it.”
Mr Sherrifs said the Williamstown High School band and the Horsham College band had the chance to collaborate together.
“Even prior to performing, we had never run through the pieces as one combined band,” he said.
“Williamstown had spent some time looking at my original music, and we had worked on one of the band pieces that they had prepared for their tour called I am the Doctor.”
The Horsham College band also had the opportunity to perform one of Mr Shirrefs compositions entitled Chthonian Carnival.
Mr Shirrefs said the piece was warmly received by the Williamstown students.
“Our collaboration was brief but it is always good to work with other schools from both a professional and personal perspective,” he said.
“Students always get a lot of great experience working and performing with other students and teachers are also always keen to network with other teachers in their field.
“Hopefully the two schools can work together again in the future.”
