The grants aimed to assist community groups in developing projects or programs which benefited residents in the area.
Northern Grampians Shire mayor Tony Driscoll said council had received a wide variety of applications.
“Our grant programs have always been very popular and we enjoy being able to help groups get projects and events off the ground that may not have been possible without this assistance,” he said.
“It is great to see a variety of applications coming through the program and to know that the grants are reaching a broad cross section of the community.”
Stawell Performing Arts Company will use the funding to hold a new event, the Stawell Christmas Festival, in conjunction with the StawellBiz Christmas Parade.
The festival will include carols, food and beverage vendors, and family activities.
The grant for the GRAMPS program went towards funding an end of year excursion to the Halls Gap Zoo.
GRAMPS Mentoring Program coordinator Julie Erwin said the trip helped cement relationships within the program and thanked the many volunteers who gave up their time to mentor young people in the Stawell region.
“We are totally reliant on external funding so GRAMPS Mentoring Program is extremely grateful to the Northern Grampians Shire Council for its Youth and Young People Grants Program funding which enabled us to have an end of year trip,” she said.
“The trip provided shared time together in a new environment to extend personal relationships.
“Everyone is looking forward to 2017 and working hard to learn more about themselves and achieving their goals with the support of their mentors.”
Ms Erwin said youth mentoring was an effective way of providing young people with a supportive and enriching experience.
She also said it was fantastic to see it supported by the Northern Grampians Shire Council.
