A FULL day of action on the track, combined with family activities and entertainment, makes Laidlaw Park the place to be for the Stawell Pacing Cup on Sunday, December 4.
Special guest Billy Brownless will be on course on Cup day, which is hosted by the Stawell Harness Racing Club.
This family-friendly event, featuring top level competition on the track, has free entry.
The Stawell Pacing Cup is the major day of harness racing for the Stawell club, offering eight races, including the prestigious $30,000 Stawell Pacing Cup and $12,000 Stawell Trotters Cup.
Last year’s main event was taken out by Smythes Creek pacer Yankee Rockstar, who shaved more than two seconds off the track record to take out the 2590 metre feature.

All eyes will be on this year’s competitors to see if someone can shave some more time off the premier race.
Stawell Harness Racing Club CEO Lisa McIlvride encouraged community members to get down to the park for this year’s event, which promised entertainment for keen race-goers and their families.
“Come along and enjoy the excitement,” she said.
“With free entry and all the entertainment, it makes it an affordable day out for the entire family.”
Gates open at 11am. Families can bring a picnic lunch, enjoy a bite from the bistro or the barbecue run by the local Lions Club.
There will be Pony Trots, which has proved very popular, a jumping castle, pony rides and, in keeping with the season, a visit from Santa.
A competition will be held during the day allowing people to go in the draw to become the honorary owner of one of the competitors in the Pacing Cup and the Trotters Cup.
The honorary owners of the winners of these two races will share in $5000 in prize money and have their photograph taken with their winning horses.
“It lets people have the thrill of watching the horse race with that little extra excitement,” Ms McIlvride said.
To enter, fill out the entry form in the race book, which can be purchased onsite, and put it in the barrel provided.
A new feature in 2016 is Harness Racing Victoria’s virtual reality tent, which Ms McIlvride said would be a great experience for visitors.
“It will let punters experience what it would be like to be in the driver’s seat,” she said.
Ms McIlvride thanked the State Government for a Victorian Racing Industry Fund grant which contributed to the day.
