Regional cricket managed Stephen Field said it was a great day.
“Finally we had some nice weather,” he said.
“We’ve had a very difficult start to the season around the place.”
About 200 children from schools in the region vied for the opportunity to move on the next stage of the year 8 and 9 competition.
Birchip won the boys competition by defeating Horsham College.
“The side was actually a player down in the final making there win more impressive,” Field said.
“There was also a lot of good fielding in that final.”
In the girls competition Marion College defeated Goroke.
“One of the real features of the girls cricket was the number of outstanding bowlers,” Field said.
“It was also really pleasing the number of girls who were keen to continue playing in the Horsham District competition when it starts”
