Halls Gap police sergeant Scott Olsen said emergency services escalated their search based on new intelligence and items located in the park.
He said the renewed search attempted concluded Wednesday night, but investigations were ongoing.
“We had the air-wing, four mounted troopers, the dog squad, search and rescue, Stawell SES and well as uniformed police from Goroke, Edenhope, Elmhurst and Halls Gap.
“The investigation is ongoing but the search was escalated over the past three days to tie up loose ends and look at new avenues of enquiry.”
Sergeant Olsen said police had not given up hope of finding Mr VanDerWerf.
Mr VanDerWerf has been missing since September 25, at the time police held concerns for his welfare as he had a medical condition.
