A severe weather warning for Stawell was dropped after high winds and heavy rain missed the Grampians region and instead hit the Mallee in the state’s north-west on Thursday.

Despite the change Stawell State Emergency Service volunteers were called to six incidents of fallen or damaged trees on roads from Wednesday night through to Thursday morning.
The service’s Grampians operations manager Kendra Clegg said there had been no major traffic concerns caused by the damage.
“Units were on high alert as we went into the evening but we came out pretty good,” she said.
“Towards the Grampians were most of the jobs but tree-down damage was quite widely spread.
“We don’t believe there were any major traffic concerns.”
Ms Clegg said although Stawell had avoided the worst of the weather another severe weather warning had been issued for Sunday.
“We will keep an eye on that,” she said.
“We do have another weather event coming Sunday with high winds.”
