Jayden McQueen is part of the Vic White under-19 men’s team and will be heading to the championships for a second year in a row.
“I’m looking forward to playing all the best sides,” he said.
“A lot of training has gone into it so I’m definitely excited to go. Hopefully we go well and hopefully we can come away with a medal so we’ll see what happens.”
McQueen was the only player from the association at the championships last year.
“Everyone last year was from the city so this year to go with people that I’m close with is definitely exciting,” he said.
His advice to his fellow eleven players was to be confident and just go for it.
One of the new faces is Chloe Brown who is part of the under-19 Victoria White women’s team.
Brown missed out on selection when she previously tried out for the squad.
“I missed out a couple of years ago when I was named as the emergency so to be selected is very exciting,” she said.
“I’ve worked really hard to get there.”
Brown has also overcome injury setbacks this year.
“I was injured before the trials and then to be selected I was very excited,” she said.
“My injury is going really well now. We’ve got a really good bunch of girls so I’m looking forward to playing well with them.”
Eadie Garth-Lindsay is part of the under-17 Vic gold women’s team while Jordan Weidemann will play for the under-17 gold men’s team.
Tim Popple will coach the Vic West under-15 boys team that includes Will Brennan, Will Saligari, John Kearns, Otto Maroske, Alex Baker and Aiden O’Connor.
It is Tim’s first time coaching at the championships and he expects his side to go well. “They’ve been working really hard and training for the past three or four months on weekend camps all over the state,” he said. “You would always like that little bit of extra time but I think they are ready.”
Kara Johnson said she is excited to be an assistant coach for the Vic West under-15 girls team which includes Cleo Baker and Laelah Robertson.
“The kids have been training for a long time,” she said.
“Some of them are pretty new to the game but I think they’ve done well and we’ll see how we go when we get there. I can imagine from the start to the end of the week there will be some big improvements.”
