Back in the early 1980s the Stawell community put forward an idea to eventually see sports played inside one big gymnasium.
Thirty years on and the leisure centre has an indoor swimming pool, two outdoor swimming pools, three water slides, a multi purpose court, two fitness centres and multiple racquetball and squash courts, making it one of the leading sports complexs in the state.
The original plan was estimated to cost $975,000, but extra works meant the final cost was closer to $1.2 million. A large portion of the money was raised by the Stawell community.
The party on Friday will start from 9.00am and run until 5.00pm with a number of activities to take place. Formalities will take place from 12.45pm followed by a free barbecue and a pool party. Team leader of leisure services Marc Brilliant has been at the SLC for 19 years and is very proud of the transformation during his time there.
