Northern Grampians Inspector Ian Lindsay said about 5.15pm on Monday a police speed check identified a vehicle travelling at more than 200 kilometres an hour.
“When travelling north on the Henty Highway, the driver was speed checked at 234 kilometres an hour,” he said.
“There was no pursuit but the driver was identified and later arrested at a Galaquil address.”
Inspector Lindsay said the man was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle.
He said the man was charged with conduct endangering life, other traffic offences.
He was also charged with multiple counts of theft of a motor vehicle along with the breech of an intervention order, unrelated to the incident.
Inspector Lindsay said the man’s car had been impounded.
He said the man was remanded to custody to appear at Stawell Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
Inspector Lindsay said the quick response and arrest was a credit to police officers.
“It’s pleasing to see the attentive actions from police members,” he said.
“It was a quick response and now has been brought before court.
“The fact is if people want to be out and demonstrate negligent irresponsible behaviour on the road or in criminal activity – police will investigate and present before court at the earliest opportunity.”
