Travellers were greeted with a surprise this morning when a kangaroo was spotted in a car park at Melbourne Airport.
The kangaroo was safely removed from the fifth floor of the airport's long-term car park.
The animal was discovered after users on social media site Twitter alerted the airport around 7.30am.
"Hey @Melair there's a kangaroo in your carpark. I applaud your efforts to welcome international visitors!" said one of the tweets.
Airport spokeswoman Anna Gillett said the animal was in distress and appeared to be injured.
"We have no idea how he got in there, but he made his way up to the fifth level," she said.
Wildlife officers came and tranquilised the kangaroo at around 10am, before safely escorting it out of the car park in a hessian bag.
"We cordoned off an area to try and calm him down, and he lay down for while until wildlife officers came," Ms Gillett said.
The kangaroo will be examined before being released into the wild.
