SPECTATORS held their breath as they watched Hugh Douglas boot the final goal and cement a thrilling three-point win for Harrow-Balmoral on Saturday.
The ball flew from one end to the other in a fast paced, physical match which saw Laharum’s season come to an abrupt end, 11.11(77)-11.8(74).
The final siren sounded as Douglas’ kick reached the goals and ensured the Southern Roos will battle on in the semi-final next weekend.
As the game kicked off the pressure was strong as both sides fought hard in a heart-stopping opening quarter.
The players left everything on the field as they laid down tackle after tackle and Laharum took the first lead.
The Southern Roos picked up the pace in the second quarter as both sides made it difficult for the other with robust defensive pressure.
The Mountain Men gave it all but the Southern Roos managed to take the lead.
As the second half kicked off, Southern Roos’ Jandre Slabbert fought for possessions and Callum Hobbs kicked a goal to stay on top of the Mountain Men.
The final quarter saw the Mountain Men push hard and get back on top of the scoreboard.
Tom Crawford spurred Laharum on with a goal as the crowd went wild.
The Southern Roos refused to let the Mountain Men escape as Eric Guthrie responded with a goal of his own.
The Mountain Men saw a win in its sights with mere seconds to go before Douglas’ saved the day for the Southern Roos.
Douglas was the games leading goal kicker with three goals.
Southern Roos’ William Plush and Eric Guthrie scored two goals each.
Guthrie and Plush were named among the teams best.
Other best players awards went to Hamish Ellis, Anthony Close, Jandre Slabbert and Luke Merryfull.
Tom Crawford and Jason Przibilla were Laharum’s highest goal kickers with two goals each.
Jack Mentha, Shannon Argall, Cameron Bruce, Todd Heynen, Gerard Matthews and Angus Martin took home Laharum’s best.
Harrow-Balmoral Football Netball Club had 11 teams heading into finals ahead of today’s elimination games.
Club president Rosemary Langley said it would be great for the club to celebrate a premiership.
“It would be fantastic. That is what we play for every year and it is certainly what we aim for,” she said.
“The journey along the way is just as fun though.”
Langley said club spirits are high.
“We are very lucky to have such a good club with a lot of support behind us,” she said.
