THERE is nothing more inconvenient than having your car break down when you need it.
After ignoring the warning signs and running past the recommended point for a service, car owners often find themselves madly phoning around mechanics, looking for somewhere to investigate the problem.
Waiting for a problem to occur before taking your car to the experts can lead to unnecessary damage to your vehicle and a much greater bill in trying to get that damage fixed.
Problems may seem small, but you do not want to risk having mechanical failure, such as brake or steering problems, occurring when you are on the open road with your family.
“We find if a vehicle has been serviced to schedule it is less likely to have problems and to break down,” Shannon Morrow, service manager from Morrow Motor Group Horsham said.
“It keeps you safe, makes sure the brakes and tyres are okay. It’s picking up problems that people can’t see for themselves.”

At a regular service, your provider will be able to identify any major issue with suspension, steering or brakes and advise you how best to address them.
The checks will also prevent the build up of left over oil, which can block the normal flow of oil within the engine and cause breakdowns.
Tim Kennedy from TK Auto Electrex in Stawell said it was important, coming up to the hot weather, to have the car’s air-conditioner serviced.
“You want to make sure the air-conditioner is working to its optimum level,” he said.
“You tend to go on a trip and then realise it’s only putting out half-cold air.”
He recommended having the check undertaken every 12 months.
The other important point to remember is that, in the case of new cars, a warranty is tied to a good record of service and care.
In the long term, not keeping up a good servicing schedule can go on to affect the resale value of your vehicle. When it is time to upgrade, you may look to trade in your old car, or sell it on to a dealer or private buyer. That firm record of servicing attests that the car has been well maintained.
