The group has 18 members but there are more people diagnosed with the disease in the Stawell and Ararat region.
Member Bev Boags said some people would travel to Melbourne for the event at Federation Square, while others would complete the walk in Stawell.
“There are at least a couple that usually go from Stawell every year,” she said.
“You can also do your own walk nearer to home as well.
Mrs Boag said the Stawell group offered support to people with Parkinson’s and their families.
”I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s for five years but everybody with it is different,” she said.
“Not everyone gets tremors straight away but they get other things.
“My husband and I are very positive people which is good for some who have Parkinson’s.”
Now in its eighth year, A Walk in the Park is Australia’s largest community event dedicated to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s.
More than 27,000 people across the state are living with Parkinson’s, a chronic and progressive neurological condition that affects movement.
All money raised from A Walk in the Park will go towards increasing services and funding research to improve the lives of those living with Parkinson’s in Victoria.
Walking becomes increasingly difficult for people with Parkinson’s because of a progressively worsening body tremor that compromises their stability.
The symptoms relate to a decline in the production of a brain chemical called dopamine which means people have difficulty controlling their movements.

The Stawell Parkinson’s Support Group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Stawell Health and Community Centre.
