Cr Emerson said council was working with Stawell Historical Society to consider options.
"We'll hear from the historical society on Friday,” he said.
“We'll then discuss it at the council briefing on Monday.”
Stawell Historical Society president Dorothy Brumby said the society had notified council of their preference of names.
She said they had put forward the name Pleasant Creek Historic Precinct to council.
"The highway precinct area is where Stawell first came into being,” she said.
“At that time it was called Pleasant Creek so we want to acknowledge the history of the area.”
A final decision will be made on Monday following the council briefing.
The official opening is scheduled for August 15.
