Stawell College principal Nick Lynch said VicRoads and Public Transport Victoria had accepted a proposal to move the bus stop.
As part of the deal, the school crossing on Patrick Street will reopen with a state government-funded crossing supervisor.
“It’s great news,” Mr Lynch said.
“It will be much better for the students of Stawell.”
Work began on Thursday to repaint the crossing road lines.
Mr Lynch said students, teachers and parents were relieved.
“We have had six months of genuine anxiety but that is now over,” he said.
Northern Grampians Shire used to run the crossing.
