A HARD slog in heavy conditions saw Minyip-Murtoa Burras challenged by Warrack Eagles on Saturday, but ultimately the home team prevailed to all-but claim the Wimmera Football League minor premiership.

The ball spent a lot of time on the ground in the low-scoring affair, which the Burras won 8.11 (59) to 6.4 (40). Burras coach Jaye Macumber had expected the conditions to play a part in the game going in.
“The rain is obviously great for the farmers but it made the ground very heavy underfoot,” he said.
“The ball was just stopping in it. If you can imagine another 100-kilos on top of that and the boys were getting stopped as well.”
Macumber said that he felt like his side was in control for most of the day but never felt comfortable with the lead.
“Warrack were fantastic with the endeavour, especially at the start of the third,” he said. The tough contest was welcomed by Macumber in the lead up to the finals.
“You need to have hard games like that and the way we responded in the third quarter was good,” he said.
“In the last quarter we were starting to get on top a bit more but we didn’t take advantage of our chances.
“We missed four shots from 30 out, you need to capitalise on them come finals.”
Macubmer said Brylie Cameronn had his best game since a knee-reconstruction 18 months ago while John Delahunty was strong across halfback.
There was also praise for Gerald White, who umpired with the assistance of volunteers from either club, following a morning hamstring injury to the other umpire assigned to the fixture.
