The award was presented for outstanding dedication over eight years to a major redevelopment.
The Stawell Historical Society has been operating for 30 years; the third incarnation of the society.
President Dorothy Brumby said she was surprised to receive the award.
“We are members of Museums Australia and they encouraged us to put in an application,” she said.
“We have hundreds of photos and newspapers dating back to 1858 being preserved in a temperature controlled room. We are lucky to have three new volunteers and are hopeful the society goes on so people can remember Stawell.”
