Northern Grampians Shire Council elections will be held on October 22 and seven councillor positions across four wards will be contested.
Kara Kara Ward will be represented by two Councillors, South West Ward by one Councillor, Central Ward by one Councillor and Stawell Ward by three Councillors.
The elections will be run by the Victorian Electoral Commission and all ballots will be collected by postal vote.
Voting is compulsory for ratepayers and you may be fined if you do not vote.
Northern Grampians Shire has urged ratepayers to make sure your voice is heard this October.
Horsham Rural City Council will also face an election in October.
Horsham council will run a Community and Candidate Information Session on Thursday from 6.30pm at Horsham Civic Centre for people who may consider standing for election to council in October.
Horsham council chief executive Peter Brown said the information session would outline the roles and responsibilities of a councillor, describe the election process, and provide useful advice for getting elected.
“Even if you haven’t really decided whether becoming a councillor is for you, it’s a great opportunity to come along, meet people who have been there and learn more about what’s involved,” he said.
Ararat Rural City Council will hold a similar session on August 10.
The information session for prospective candidates in the general elections for Ararat Rural City
Council will be held on Wednesday, August 10 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Council Chambers.
Speakers from neighbouring councils and the Municipal Association of Victoria will provide information about the council area, and advice on who can nominate, how to nominate, and what is required of a councillor.
The presentation will also cover time commitments, challenges and rewards.
