The streak was one of the greatest in Victoria Country Football history, but like all good things it come to an end.
The team that ended the streak – Royal Park – had never defeated Navarre, having gone into the game 0-5 and with an average losing margin of 138 points against the Grasshoppers
Navarre were on the verge of breaking the record but fell at the final hurdle and now they must pick themselves up, dust themselves off and get going again.
Navarre had 59 players who participated in the streak.
Cody Driscoll was one of three players who played in 48 or the 50 wins and he will be important in the clash tomorrow.
His brother Ash who has played in 46 of the winning games and now coaches the club will also have a role to play.
The Driscoll brothers form a powerful forward line for the Grasshoppers, but last week against tough opposition they looked out of sorts.
Cody Driscoll still leads the goal kicking race, but Royal Park’s Josh Brown is closing in and is just one goal behind.
The Grasshoppers remain one of the best teams in the competition and they will be favourites going into tomorrow’s match.
The past two times Navarre and Avoca have met have resulted in big wins to Navarre.
Navarre won by 99 points and 119 respectively.
Like all good teams, Navarre will be hard to keep down and the feelings from last week will want to be buried.
Navarre coaching staff said they were keen to get back on track following the loss last weekend.
Leaders such as Driscoll, Jayden Fowkes, Louis Hannett, Daniel Parkin and Brent Flood will lead the charge tomorrow.
Danny Grellett is having a consistently good season and will want to continue with that form.
Up and coming players Bradley Slorach, Riley Bibby, Luke Brown and Josh Monaghan should all retain their spot while there was several senior players that were on the chopping block.
the game will get underway at Navarre’s home ground from 2.35pm.
Navarre will no doubt come out firing.
