Warriors fought hard from the first whistle and were able to pull away from Ararat.
Ararat, however, stayed within reach.
Stawell had many unforced errors, which gave the Rats a sniff.
Kellie Somerville dominated through the mid court for Stawell.
Sommerville played all four quarters in the centre and was the standout player.
Ebony Summers showed plenty of versatility at a young age, going from one end to the other.
Summers was second best on court behind Sommerville.
Lisa Fleming and Maddi Jelly combined well deep in defence while Kirby Griffiths had her work cut out with Jess Williamson.
The final score saw Warriors run out winners 38-31.
Stawell’s B grade weren't so lucky as they went down 34-64.
Ararat have a strong team in the B grade and while Stawell fought hard they were out classed.
Adding to their troubles were injuries and illness to Madi Freeland and Meg Walker.
The experienced Ararat line up showed class across the court.
Stawell improved in the second half of the match and it is hoped they can take those positives into this week’s match against Minyip Murtoa.
Best players were Tracey Dark, Kristy Matthews and Chantal Thomas.
Stawell C grade went down by three goals to a gallant Ararat.
Ararat had plenty of youth on their side but were able to outsmart the Warriors 33-30.
Emma Dwyer and Courtney McIlvride were the two best players for Stawell in what was a disappointing match.
In the under 17s Tarnee Orr led the way in the mid court.
Orr steered her team to a 43-40 victory.
Orr was best on court for her precise passing into shooters Daisy Walker and Tessa Mornane.
Mornane was the second best player.
In the Under 15As, inconsistency and bad passing cost Stawell the game.
The young Stawell girls outplayed their opponents time and time again with some wonderful passages of play but then let themselves down.
Short lapses in concentration allowed Ararat back into the game.
In the end it was Ararat that got over the line by three goals 45 to 42.
Melanie Dent played her best game of the year in wing defence.
She earned the best on court with her timely intercepts and passing down the court.
Tessa O’Callaghan put in another solid effort at centre for the second best award.
There were two coaches awards awarded, one to Dakota Cosson and the other to Eliza Marrow for some fantastic team work in the goal ring.
Stawell under 13s had a tough day at the office but to their credit they were able to get the job done.
Stawell won 23-18.
Madi Taylor was Stawell’s best player followed by Madeline Jardine.
Stawell were forced to make some changes during the match which paid dividends.
There was no under 15 B grade results submitted.
Stawell Warriors will be on the road tomorrow when they meet Minyip Murtoa.
