Bronte will be among 30 year 10 students from across regional Victoria who will be heading to John Monash Science School at the beginning of term three.
The students will spend four weeks entrenched in the world of science, mathematics and emerging technologies.
Bronte said she was looking forward to the experience after the holiday break.
She said her main interests focused around psychology.
“I’m interested in psychology, forensics, astronomy and geography,” Bronte said.
“I would like to become a forensic psychologist and I’ve started to tailor my subjects to give me the best opportunity to achieve this goal.
“I am particularly interested in the investigative process of criminology. What attracts me most about forensics is examining the evidence and using that evidence to build a case. It’s like finding all the pieces of the puzzle and putting them together to make a whole picture.
“I also enjoy sciences of the natural world. I enjoy astronomy because I’m fascinated by how big the universe is. It’s exciting to think there is still so much more to discover about the universe. We only know a small section in our solar system, we still have whole galaxies to explore.”
Bronte said geography was also one of her strong interests.
“I am really interested in geography because I enjoy learning about the way our world works,” she said.
“I am particularly interested in volcanoes and tectonics plates. And in broader terms, I love finding out about different countries, their relation to each other, and what the people are like.”
Bronte will join students from schools, who will be working alongside like-minded Year 10 students from John Monash Science School to experience a mix of classes, workshops and visits to Monash University.
Monash is where the John Monash Science School has an ongoing partnership to develop curriculum, workshops and career direction.
Students will be supported to complete science projects once they return to their home schools and then return to JMSS later on October 24 to present their projects at the annual JMSS Science Fair.
The students will be hosted by JMSS families and will be offered a curriculum from John Monash Science School that is innovative, diverse and exciting.
Students will have the opportunity to explore cutting edge scientific knowledge from JMSS’s Emerging Sciences electives.
