Monique Scott, Annie Shea, Katelin McDonald, Racquel Scott and Jesse Bligh flew the flag for the Rats in the Northern Zone Championship at Swan Hill on Sunday.
All three junior Wimmera teams made the semi-finals, with the 17 and unders reaching the grand final.
After a slow start, Monique Scott and her 17 and under Wimmera squad progressed to the grand final. A strong 15-11 win against Horsham and District saw the girls face home side Central Murray Netball League in the decider.
It was a tough clash for Wimmera, who started to show a bit of fatigue against Central Murray. The visitors were eventually outplayed in the final and went down to a fresher outfit, 15-9.
Despite the loss, Wimmera has booked itself a berth in the 2016 Association Championships finals. They will be held on Sunday, June 26 at the State Netball Hockey Centre.
Meanwhile, the 15 and under side suffered a 17-7 loss in its semi-final clash with Echuca and District while the 13 and under Wimmera netballers went down to Bendigo-Strathdale 12-6.
Rats’ netball director, Brendan Scott, said the Rats girls and their teammates went really well.
“The girls have put in a really good effort, and have shown improvement over the past three weeks,” Mr Scott said.
“They can bring that experience back to their Ararat team.
“Also, it builds up their resilience. Having to play 10 or 11 games in one day is tiring, but they’ll be better for it.”
