The expo is on Tuesday, June 21 at the Wimmera Events Centre at Longerenong.
Careers expo project officer Pauline Barnes encouraged people to keep an open mind when visiting the expo.
“Don’t disregard an exhibitor based on what you think you know about them,” she said.
“The expo is designed so people can have a conversation and maybe breakdown misconceptions about industries and organisations. This can open up ideas for career opportunities.
“We have a great range of exhibitors this year, with many new to the careers expo.”
Mrs Barnes said the expo’s exhibitor list included representatives from employment and volunteering, education and training and trade and professional sectors.
“Exhibitors provide opportunity for face-to-face contact with people who can guide you and answer your personal questions about an organisation or industry,” she said.
“The exhibitors are there for you, so get involved in discussions, ask questions and be willing to listen.”
Visitors are encouraged to ask about industry experience, employment conditions, work ready skills, volunteering opportunities and open days.
“Grab a business card or contact information and follow-up anything that was of interest to you,” Mrs Barnes said.
There will be opportunities for visitors to get involved involved in hands-on activities at the try-a-trade sites.
“The hands-on activities provide a wonderful opportunity for conversations about what’s involved working day-to-day within an industry,” Mrs Barnes said.
“We have more than 50 industry seminars presented throughout the day, each being approximately 25 minutes. The seminars provide a snapshot of opportunities available to people and insights into work sectors.”
“You could certainly walk into the expo without any planning but you’ll get more from the experience if you know about the exhibitors that will be there.”
