Bicycle Network will be hosting local meetings in the coming weeks to discuss how community groups can get involved in the bike ride and make it a week to remember.
More than 4000 bike riders will roll from Halls Gap to Geelong via the Great Ocean Road from November 26 to December 4 as part of the ride, camping overnight at seven different towns along the way.
Bicycle Network’s general manager, events, Rebecca Lane, said that the meetings will help locals understand how they can seize the opportunity and make their hometown one of the most memorable for riders.
“We will be exploring some of Victoria’s best scenery from Halls Gap to the Great Ocean Road and want to make sure that each town can give riders an extraordinary experience,” Ms Lane said.
“The RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride is so much more than just riders passing through a town, they become locals for a night and the entire community becomes part of the event.”
There are a number of ways residents, businesses, community groups and tourism operators can display some famous regional hospitality and benefit from the 4000 visitors coming to town.
“Each rider spends an average of $35 every day during the Great Vic, injecting more than $100,000 into each town visited,” Ms Lane said.
“Local groups can take advantage of this by putting on sausage sizzles, stalls and displaying local produce. We want to help everyone get the most out of the ride.”
The floor will be open at the meetings for locals to discuss the ride and see how they can be a part of the festivities.
The RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride will be visiting Halls Gap, Dunkeld, Mortlake, the 12 Apostles, Apollo Bay, Bellbrae, Queenscliff before finishing in Geelong.
The meeting in Halls Gap will be held on Monday, June 6 from 6pm at the Halls Gap Hub Visitor Information Centre. A meeting will also be held at Dunkeld at the same time on June 6 before moving further to the west of the state.
