Stawell-based teams from Victoria Police, the Country Fire Authority, Ambulance Victoria, the State Emergency Service and Northern Grampians Shire Council joined staff from Stawell Gold Mine last Sunday in responding to a simulated emergency training scenario.
Sergeant Russell Brown from Stawell police said the simulated scenario required crews to respond to an incident where a mining truck had crushed a much smaller vehicle.
Sgt Brown said the scenario involved one fatality and several serious injuries to people.
He said Stawell-based emergency service crews were invited to participate in training scenarios at the Stawell gold mine roughly every six months.
“They’re a great chance for crews to test their procedural preparedness,” he said.
“There’s a lot of practical safety elements involved as well.”
