The Lions will be travelling to take on Wickliffe-Lake Bolac on Saturday, a team that is widely touted as the competition benchmark in 2016.
Lions defenders need to be wary of Magpies’ co-coach Nigel Otto, who booted seven goals last week in their 118-point over the Ararat Eagles.
Sam Cocks kicked five majors for Great Western, who went down to Penshurst by 126 points and he will be looking to continue that good form at Lake Bolac.
Lions coach Andrew Bach believes his side is capable of matching it with the Magpies in their round five clash.
“We feel we have a chance but we need to play four quarters,” Bach said.
“We want to really commit to each other and look after who ever has the ball.”
Meanwhile, the Ararat Eagles play host to Hawkesdale-Macarthur at Alexandra Oval. Ararat Eagles are winless so far this season, and once again face a challenge.
Ararat Eagles’ Aaron Jenkins, Brent Bulger and Justin Coole have been in fine form recently and are ones to watch this Saturday.
In other Mininera matches, Tatyoon and Moyston-Willaura face off at Tatyoon while SM&W Rovers welcome Caramut. Lismore-Derrinallum clash with Penshurst and Woorndoo-Mortlake take on Glenthompson-Dunkeld.
