Tuesday’s federal budget will create growth, generate investment and increase innovation, infrastructure and employment opportunities.
Across the Mallee electorate the statistics show that we have significant issues with disadvantage and youth, who have become disengaged from education, training and employment.
There are a number of very innovative programs, that are delivering positive results in re-engaging vulnerable youth.
I believe the new Youth Jobs PaTH (Prepare-Trial-Hire) package will complement these program and encourage aspiration through a three stage process of training, internship and youth bonus wage subsidies.
The PaTH program, which commences on April 1, 2017, will see $751.7-million committed over four years to maximise the chances of young job seekers under 25 getting a job.
This approach will help young job seekers understand what employers expect of them.
Young job seekers will receive intensive training to prepare them for the workplace.
There will be 30,000 internships available each year for four years.
These places will be voluntary and last between four to 12 weeks, which will give the young person a good understanding of the business or organisation along with workplace experience.
A youth bonus wage subsidy of between $6500 and $10,000 will also be available to employers who hire a young job seeker who has been in employment services for six months or more.
As part of the youth employment package, the government is investing $88.6-million to encourage young Australians to create their own job and start their own business through encouraging entrepreneurship and self-employment.
I welcome this overall focus on young people, which will assist to create aspiration and in turn will lead them into employment.

Union demands put lives and homes at risk
THE Coalition supports the work of all firefighters in Victoria, both career and volunteer.
Due to the outrageous demands of the United Firefighters Union in their enterprise bargaining agreement negotiations, the Country Fire Authority is under attack.
The union is demanding that a new enterprise agreement for firefighters include a union run veto board, effectively handing control of the authority to the United Firefighters Union.
The union is also demanding that seven paid firefighters must be on the fire ground prior to commencement of operations.
This would leave local volunteers watching farms and homes go up in flames while they wait for paid fire fighters to arrive.
It is ridiculous, unworkable and a risk to homes and lives.
Here in regional Victoria, we rely on volunteer firefighters to protect us.
A union takeover will destroy Country Fire Authority volunteerism as we know it.
Far from rejecting these outrageous demands out of hand, Daniel Andrews is working with the union.
This is the same union that put on their uniforms and campaigned with Daniel Andrews in 2014.
Now they want their loyalty to Daniel Andrews rewarded with a secret backroom deal that will destroy the authority and put regional communities at risk.
Join me in telling the premier and the union to keep their hands off the Country Fire Authroity. Sign the petition at www.handsofftheCFA.com.au
