The purpose of the lunch is to bring people together to enjoy something that is important – food.
“We hope it will be a great opportunity for people to come out for the day, enjoy a nice two-course meal and maybe even meet some new people,” house co-ordinator Jenny Greenberger said.
“I went along to a neighbourhood community meal when I lived in Warrnambool and it was always such a lovely time of friendly chatter over a shared meal.
“I am really looking forward to hosting our very own community meal here in Stawell at the Powerhouse.”
The neighbourhood house has partnered with the Food Connect Program for the lunch. The program was started in 2015 by representatives from Stawell Neighbourhood House, Stawell Regional Health and Grampians Community Health.
A partnership was formed with the Second Bite program, Stawell Woolworths and the Melbourne Food Bank to receive surplus donated food twice a week.
Local food programs have accessed this food from the neighbourhood house to support and grow their own food programs.
The community lunch is at the Stawell Neighbourhood House on Wednesday, May 4 from noon to 1.30pm.
To RSVP, people can call 5358 3500.
