STAWELL recorded its first win of the 2016 Wimmera Netball Association A Grade season by defeating Ararat on Saturday.

The Warriors secured a 37-31 win against their arch-rivals.
It was set to be the game of the round with Stawell failing to win a game in the first three rounds while Ararat had been successful on just one occasion.
The game lived up to expectations with intensity at a high as the teams battled for the victory.
Ararat were the first side to falter, handing Stawell a slight break.
New recruit Kellie Sommerville settled the young Warriors team in a best on court performance at centre.
Lisa Fleming played her role well and, despite giving away several inches in height to her opponent, she was able to use her athleticism to create intercepts.
In other grade B grade were defeated by a mere four goals. Kristy Matthews was the best players followed by up and coming youngster Tarnee Orr.
The final score was 30-34.
C grade were able to get the upper-hand on their Ararat opponent in a 26-20 victory.
Emma Dwyer controlled the attacking end in a best on court performance while new recruit Jo Orr was second best.
Teams could not be separated in the under 17 competition as they drew on 33 goals apiece.
It was a hard fought game by both sides that saw a nail biting draw.
Stawell applied defensive pressure across the court and kept Stawell in the game in the first half. Natasha Reading played a strong game in defence to earn best on court and Jessie Cowen played a solid game at wing attack to earn second best.
Stawell’s Under 15A’s started the match strongly and came out to score the first couple of goals for the match. The rest of the quarter was strongly contested but Stawell lead 12-9 at quarter time.
Ararat came out the better of the two teams in the final quarter but Stawell fought back late in the last quarter and were able to settle to win by two goals. Eliza Marrow at goal attack worked tirelessly throughout the match and Tess Marrow put in a great defensive game limiting her opponent to very few opportunities.
A whole team effort resulted in a great win for the under 13 Warriors team. Stawell gained a comfortable lead and maintain the lead throughout the whole game. Special Mention to Taneya Burke on playing 50 games for the Warriors.
