“The L2P program has a waiting list of learner drivers wanting to join the program but we simply don’t have enough volunteer supervising driver mMentors,” program co-ordinator Sarah Garton said.

The program launched in August 2013 and aims to assist disadvantaged learner drivers between the ages of 16 and 20 years of age who have limited access to a suitable vehicle, or fully licensed supervising driver to gain the required 120 hours of driving experience needed to go for their probationary licence.

“We have been very fortunate to have wonderful volunteer supervising drivers in the program since it launched,” Ms Garton said.

“But over time, with changes to peoples’ work schedules or moving away, our list of volunteers has dwindled and we are now looking for some new mentors.

“We know becoming a supervising driver is not for everyone, so we are looking for anyone who has the confidence to sit next to a learner and help them gain that valuable on-road experience that they would otherwise not have access to.

“By becoming an L2P supervising driver mentor you are also helping to make our roads safer for users.”
