The focus of the World Day of Prayer this year was on the island of Cuba.
More than three million people in more than 170 countries and islands around the world came together to pray during a global day or prayer. Many prayed in silence and listened to the voice of women and children in Cuba.
Described by the Lonely Planet Guide as a ‘prince in a poor man’s coat’ this nation of stark contrasts is facing the challenge of rising domestic violence. The Christian churches of Cuba, in partnership with the United Bible Societies and the International World Day of Prayer committee, have decided that they can and must do something to help.
Members of all congregations gathered at the Stawell Uniting Church for the World Day of Prayer.
They joined in the singing of hymns, prayer and heard from Pomonal residents Graham and Jocelyn Fuller on their personal experiences of visiting Cuba.
