Northern Grampians Shire Council has agreed on a planning scheme for the Stawell Aerodrome.
Council prepared and publicly exhibited Planning Scheme Amendment C47 in September last year.
The amendment implements recommendations in the Stawell Aerodrome Master Plan.
Council did not receive any objections or submissions requesting changes.
Cr Kevin Erwin said the planning scheme secured the airspace around the airport to ensure any proposed buildings would work with the requirements of the aerodrome.
Cr Wayne Rice said the scheme made it clear to people considering building anything within restricted areas of the airport.
“What we don’t want to see is for someone to build a structure and ask the airport to shut down because of noise,” he said.
“This makes things clear to people, before you do anything around the airport, especially around height.”
Council will also enter into lease agreements with seven individuals and businesses to use designated parts of the aerodrome.
The tenants will pay equally for their space at the aerodrome for the first time.
Cr Rice said lease agreements at the aerodrome had been an ongoing issue for several years in Stawell.
“Before some people weren’t even paying rent,” he said.
“It’s going to be a very simple formula.
“The amount of floor-space multiplied by dollars so everyone is spending the right amount of money.
“Now everyone will be paying the same, we wont get complaints about ‘why this person is here for free and I am paying’.”
He said the lease would bring money into council to put back into the aerodrome.
“Now we can talk to anyone contemplating starting up a business at the airport honestly before they start,” he said.
Both decisions regarding the Stawell Aerodrome were made at a council meeting on Monday night.
