Warriors had good numbers at their first session with 23 participating and a number of apologies.

The club worked on their ball skills as well as their fitness which was headlined by a three kilometre time trial.

“We have a long way to go so we need to get started early,” Coach Brad Thomas said.

“At this stage it isn't about who is better it is just a gauge on where we are at and where we need to be.”

There will be some changes to the coaching panel this year with James Delahunty stepping into an assistant role and Terry Croton the main man from the bench.

Thomas will mentor Delahunty in the role, but if needed Thomas has full confidence in him to be able to fill the void.

“He will know his role,” Thomas said.

“We are not expecting him to take full control. One person can not coach 44 players so we asked him to help out.”

Warriors have started their preseason to send a strong message to their opposition that they are seriously about being contenders in the up coming season.

“We still have players that don't know what is required to play at the top level,” Thomas said.

“At least now we have programs in place and everyone is on the same page.”

After showing big improvements last year Warriors will be hopeful of making it further through the finals series in the up coming season.

Warriors bowed out to Minyip Murtoa in the second round.

The Warriors will continue to train on both Monday and Wednesday nights for the next nine weeks before they break for Christmas.

“It was just nice to get the ball rolling,” Thomas said.
