Cr Karen Hyslop described the move as a win for the Northern Grampians Shire’s ratepayers, who had subsidised Taylors Gully for some time.
“It’s a win-win situation for a lot of people, for the Northern Grampians Shire and our ratepayers, who were subsidising Taylors Gully to the extent thy were,” Cr Hyslop said.
“This really is a transfer of childcare that we were offering but are now not going to offer as childcare transfers over to the YMCA.
“The YMCA put proposals forward to us and showed us ideas as to what they want to do with the site.
“All the proposals look very good and positive. They want to develop a community hub at the facility including the provision of activities for all generations of our community.
“Specific programs and services it says will be targeted at improving health and social outcomes along with more broad reaching programs such as education for new parents.”
Cr Hyslop said Grampians YMCA had a number of new ideas that would benefit the shire.
“They have lots of ideas and lots of new ideas which will be great for the shire,” Cr Hyslop said.
“They are going to offer what we were offering before, but with added bonuses and added benefits to our community,” she said.
“They are leasing part of 87 Darcy Street and will be working collaboratively with the current tenants being the Stawell and District Pre-School Association and Northern Grampians Shire Council Maternal and Child Health Services.
“With all those people in that building, it can only be a positive thing for our shire and will really help in them developing the facility as a community hub.
“They seem like they are very organised and are a very professional organisation.”
