Last seasons premiers Golf Pink, defeated V.R.I. by 39 shots to start their season off on a winning note.
Joy Seeary was in top form to win by 27 shots, Lesley Habben won by nine shots and Gwen Power rounded off a good day for Pink, defeating Ann Logan by three shots and gain maximum points for the home side.
Golf Purple were more impressive in their 50 shot margin win over Ararat.
Barb. Hurley's 38 shot margin over Val Tonkin made the game safe for purple and the result was never in doubt.
Dawn Blackman earned a very respectable draw against Rose Dowd and Annete Dwyer made a remarkable recovery, after being down 19-8 at the half way point she turned the game around to finish 31 to 19 in front.
Joy Seeary, Barb. Hurly and Diane Raeburn were the winners of the combined social bowls day with Stawell, thanks to Newton Butchers for their support of this event.
This year our opening was combined with the annual Reg Ande Jean Coote Day.
Mr. Chas Olive officialy opened the green for the new season.
Neil Coates teamed up with Pat Prins and Barb Jenkins and won by a slender magin over Ron Scanleton, Les Montgomery and L. Haines.
Stawell Golf and Stawell played the annual Garney Dredge and Stawell proved too strong for Golf, winning by 14 shots.
Rita Pyke, Marlene Scanleton and Pam Eckles were the top rink for Stawell and Lesley Habben, Denise Pappin and Betty Howden were Golf's top rink.
Men's social bowls continue on Thursday's and tomorrow will be the last Saturday social bowls before pennant starts next week. Winners of last week's "Dads Army" were Bob Power, Graeme Carr, Robin Austerbury and Ivan McDonald edging Noel Raeburn, Peter Cross and Jack Phillips into the runners up position.
On Grand Final Saturday, the Hawks played the Eagles at Stawell Golf and the result proved to be an omen for the real Grand Final, Hawks by 10 points although the final margin was a lot more in the real game.
Men's social bowls every Thursday, names in by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.
