The woman had been travelling along the Western Highway towards Stawell, when her car and small truck crashed on the Western Highway. The crash occurred at about 12.45pm on the railway overpass, south of Sisters Rocks near the Black Range.
The woman was taken by road to Stawell Hospital, and then airlifted to the Alfred Hospital where she later died. The woman’s car was completely destroyed, with police, Ambulance Victoria, CFA and SES attending the scene.
The Western Highway was closed for several hours yesterday between Ararat to Seaby Street in Stawell.
Detours were in place at Ararat-Halls Gap Road and Pomonal Road. CFA crews remained on the scene while the road was cleared.
Ararat Sergeant Mario Miocic said the driver of the truck suffered no injuries but was being treated for shock.
