The Wildcats have had an interrupted preseason with several players waiting until the last minute to commit.
While playing coach Ben Leslie is hopeful of a win in Saturday’s game he thinks the poor preparation could cost them a first up win.
“Poor preparation equals poor performance,” Leslie said.
“You are there to compete and if we dont compete with Timboon that will be disappointing.”
The Wildcats will have three players debut with Jesse Poulton, Jeremy Tan and Jono Pollock all expected to take the floor.
The three incoming players fill some of the void left by Michael Hackwill, Eugene Omiona, Jordan Little and Rory Jones.
Tan and Pollock will control the ball in the point guard position while Poulton will no doubt play a forward role.
Poulton players bigger than what he is and will be an important player this season.
Leslie may also return to the court after having last season off.
With a lack of height on their side the Wildcats will look to push the tempo and run Timboon off their feet.
Timboon have been pretty quiet over the off season, but they have appointed former SEABL player Jarryd Watene as their new playing coach.
Watene played several games last year and was a standout scorer.
Leslie is aware of their improvement and said the competition continues to get stronger.
“Every game we play this year will be tough,” Leslie said.
‘”Every team is recruiting stronger each year which helps with the standard. Getting wins will only get harder for Stawell.”
Jarred Ohayon will lead the team for the first time after taking over the captaincy from Joel Freeland.
With work commitments affecting Freelands availability Ohayon was the perfect man for the job.
A devastating knee injury saw Ohayon struggle through last season, but now back fully fit he is important for Wildcats.
Ohayon has the ability to score and play a shut down role if need be.
Other players to play include Byron Grinham, Paul Summers, Dan Cavanagh, Matt Bourke.
Wildcats will need to put in four consistent quarters if they are to win.
Tip off will be 7pm at Timboon.
