Over the past few years, SPACi has built on this central program to offer a weekly singing group, Come and Sing, a junior singing and drama program, the Young Ones, and a weekly Costume Group. This week, the committee is exited to add a dance tuition program to its list of activities.
Teachers, Chelsea Vincent and Ashlee Kilpatrick-Blight, commenced teaching ballet classes on August 17 with classes being offered from pre-primary to adult with tuition in classical technique, pointe, neo-classical modern/lyrical and contemporary styles.
A number of the students attending are existing SPACi members or children of Committee members, involved in the Young Ones and the major musical productions. It is expected that members will build on their performing skills through the training the dance program provides, enhancing participation and quality of the annual musical production. The dance program will also provide additional on stage opportunities for participants with a dance performance lined up for early December.
Chelsea and Ashlee are excited to share their skills, knowledge and love of ballet with local people and have been looking forward to beginning classes this week. They both agree the smiles on the students faces when they dance is a huge reward.
There are limited places in the program with the SPACi wanting to keep class sizes small to offer a quality learning experience. And after a great opening day of classes there are only a few places left in each class before they are full. Booking for places is through the trybooking website where waiting lists will be maintained and additional classes offered where possible to meet demand.
The Committee is hoping that the ballet classes are just the beginning, with expressions of interest open for participants and teachers in other forms of dance including Jazz, Theatrical, Tap and Hip Hop.
The Committee invite anyone interested in performing or the many activities that support local performances - such as set and prop design, making and painting as well as being a part of performance production teams, promotions, light and sound - to visit the facebook page or contact president Tracey Erkelens on 0431 070 207.
