The Western Highway has been re-opened after a truck rollover.
EARLIER
The Western Highway is closed after a truck hit a horse late Wednesday night.
The incident occurred just past Dadswells Bridge, between Howards Road and Ledcourt-Glenorchy Road.
Traffic is being diverted via Murtoa and Rupanyup.
A VicRoads representative said the crash occurred about 11.50pm.
He said the prime mover ended up in an empty channel by the highway.
Because it was off the road, the highway remained open overnight.
However, the highway is now closed due to machinery such as cranes working to remove the Border Express truck from the channel.
It will remain closed until late Thursday afternoon.
Stawell Sergeant Jason Grant said the truck driver was taken to Horsham’s Wimmera Base Hospital with minor injuries.
He said police were unsure where the horse had come from.
"It was one of those things where there was an obstacle on the highway and the truck driver has taken evasive action to miss it and unfortunately crashed into the trees," he said.
