The Lions come up against Ararat Eagles and will be hungry for a repeat of their Anzac weekend clash that saw them win by 66 points on their home turf.
However, the task won’t be easy, with the wide open spaces of Ararat’s Alexandra Oval almost certain to suit the home team more and present problems for the Great Western outfit.
Matthew Newton will return for the Lions, along with Matt Bourke and Milan Domazet and they will endeavour to add a little more depth to the lineup.
Along with these inclusions, the Lions will rely on BJ Burton, Aaron Williams, Shannon Notting, Ben Newson and Cody Virgona to continue their good form to get their team over the line.
Lions coach Andrew Bach said the mood at training this week had been positive, despite last Saturday’s 84-point defeat at the hands of Penshurst and he is confident his players are ready for the challenge on Saturday.
“We showed some really good signs last week against Penshurst and it was only the last quarter that cost us,” he said.
“Clearly we matched it with them for three quarters and that’s a real positive that we will be taking into the clash on Saturday.”
Bach said he would not try and shut down any Eagles players, but ask hiss troops to focus on their own game plan.
This will include helping each other, running to impact a contest and using the wide open spaces to advantage.
