The popular figure has announced his retirement after working at Frewstal Abattoir for the past 34 years.
Young has actually been in the abattoir game for a lot longer than that, having worked at Donald for 10 years before moving to Stawell.
He said he wouldn’t change a thing about his career.
“I’ve had a lot of different roles in that time, so things have changed a bit,” he said.
“None of the jobs I have done really stand out better than any other. I’ve really enjoyed my time here.
“I’ve worked with and met a lot of good people over the years and Stawell has really been a good place to work at.”
Young plans to travel a bit in his retirement, relax and spend more time visiting family.
“I will be doing a lot more fishing that’s for sure,” he said.
“I am planning to holiday up north for a while and when I get back, do a lot more work around the home as well.
“The plan is to go and see my family more often as well.”
Young has family spread throughout Victoria and he is hoping to get to spend a lot more time visiting them in his retirement. This will take him to places including Werribee, Geelong, Bayswater, Melton and Donald, so I will be on the road a fair bit.
“Then when I have some spare time, I want to work within the community as much as I can to give a bit back, because Stawell is a great place to live.”
Frewstal General Manager Greg Nicholls said he had been impressed by the dedication shown by Young during the past 34 years at the Stawell abattoir.
“Like most long term employees, Frank has been a good, reliable worker for us here at Frewstal,” Mr Nicholls said.
“He just turns up every day and does his job. We find that is the case with a lot of our long term employees.
“Frank has certainly been very good value to the company.
“He started as a labourer, then became a slaughterman and in the latter years, went back to being a labourer.
“Frank has been great value the whole time he has been here.”
