V/Line has teamed up with Stawell Taxis so customers can start using the station’s waiting room and amenities from this week.
Regional manager Peter Gibson said this was something the community had long been calling for.
“We’ve listened to the community and have been working on this partnership for some time so it’s great to see it come to fruition,” Mr Gibson said.
“It’s about making sure our customers feel safe, secure and comfortable when using our services."
He said 14 V/Line coach services stopped at the Stawell Station each weekday – so there would no shortage of customers wanting to use the waiting room and amenities now available.
As part of the partnership, the taxi depot will also relocate to the station, making it more central for residents.
Northern Grampians Shire Mayor Cr Murray Emerson said the partnership would provide a number of positive opportunities for the community and Stawell Taxis.
“The waiting room and amenities have been sitting there unused for a long time now so we’re really pleased to see this arrangement come together,” Cr Emerson said.
“It will improve business for the taxis, as well as making the stop in Stawell much more comfortable for our residents and travellers coming through town."
The ticketing arrangements will continue with the current provider – Roswin Milk Bar in Main Street, Stawell.
The community is invited to attend the official opening and morning tea on Monday, July 6 at 11am.
Coaches depart Stawell Station for Melbourne at 6.40am, 7.50am, 10.04am, 11.35am, 3.05pm and 4.10pm on week days, 6.38am, 8.55am and 3.25pm on Saturdays and 7.36am, 11.04am, 3.18pm and 5.13pm on Sundays.
The journey to Southern Cross Station takes about three hours.
